2020: it’s a new decade! It has been a crazy year here in the District of Columbia,  and who knows what the coming year will bring. So let’s live it up this New Years Eve and hope for all good things ahead! The first challenge is, which party to attend? New Years Eve DC might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Here in D.C., there is so much to do to ring in the new year. You may have to book a car and partake in several of these fun events.

Here are ten suggestions for how to ring in New Years Eve D.C. style.

1. Capitol Gatsby

This event is one of the city’s most exclusive and fancy ways to celebrate the new year. It’s a black-tie event where people go for a 1920s vibe.

This party is held at the Franklin Court Building, which is an 8,300-square-feet venue with 19 feet ceilings, and an industrial vibe, just minutes away from the White House and Washington DC’s City Center.

Get tickets soon because this sells out fast. A ticket gets you a five-hour open bar,  multiple food stations, a champagne toast at midnight, and the hottest DJs.

2. Spirit Cruise

Everyone knows Washington is best when viewed from the water at night. You can see all of our beautiful monuments lit up when you are on a boat on the Potomac.

On New Year’s, the rockets’ red glare is commemorated with a rousing fireworks show, which will delight the whole family.

Book a late-night cruise to be there for the stroke of midnight,  or choose a lunch-time excursion for members of the family who choose to retire early.

3. Satellite Room

Maybe before 2020 you are feeling nostalgic for the 90s, and want to rock out to the sounds of Britney, Christina, Snoop Dogg, and the Backstreet Boys. Come to the Satellite Room for their Back in Da Day new year’s party.

Centrally located in Northwest DC, a ticket buys you one hour of open bar plus appetizers, champagne toast at midnight and party favors.  You will dance the night away to the tunes of two decades ago!

Don’t drive after a festive night out. Splurge on a fancy ride home with a nice limo for you and your crew.

4. Big Night D.C.

This event is literally an extravaganza! Over 9000 people are expected to attend this party, which spans fifteen party areas, boasts five dance floors, and has some incredible performers lined up!

The party lasts until 3 am, but there are discounted hotel rooms for attendees available nearby. You can stay at the Gaylord National on D.C.’s recently refurbished waterfront, the chic place to be.

5. Masquerade Ball

This party has become one of D.C.’s favorite New Year’s Eve’s revels. This is the 15th year for this shindig staged by 360Nightlife.

This year the party is at Umaya, just blocks from the Washington Monument. They are offering a complimentary hour of cocktails with Japanese hors d’oeuvres from 9:30 – 10:30 pm, with a midnight champagne toast.

The hosts will give out masks, but you can enhance the experience with costumes of your own. DJs will spin the latest hits, and the count down in Times Square will be broadcast live.

6. Radiator

This rooftop venue at the Kimpton is going really retro, all the way back to 1979 wth its Studio-54 themed New Year’s party.

You can enjoy an a la carte menu from executive chef Jonathan Dearden starting at 5. Then at 10 pm, there’s an open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a midnight champagne toast.

Plus – disco balls!

7. Downscale

Maybe you don’t want to be fancy on New Year’s, but prefer to kick it casual-style. Taco Bamba at  777 I St NW will be offering a nacho cheese fountain from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Instead of fancy bubbly, you can toast 2020 with the Champagne of beer: Miller High Life!

8. Watergate

Why not reminisce about another political scandal and celebrate 2020 at the Watergate? The hotel has come a long way since the days of Gordon Liddy and pals.

The hotel’s Kingbird restaurant is offering a haute cuisine menu, with entrees like braised veal cheek or red snapper, and desserts like chocolate and pistachio mousse. After 9 p.m., things liven up with a four-hour open bar, fried chicken buffet, hors d’oeuvres, DJ, and midnight champagne toast.

This one is a bit pricier at $195, but it is sure to be a memorable night on the town.

9. Mellon Auditorium

Considered the creme de la creme for D.C. New Year’s,  the Mellon Gala has been a magnet for years for the Capitol’s brightest and most fashionable party-goers.

A black-tie event of philanthropy and elegant entertainment, for $1,000 you and a group can purchase the ultimate experience with top-shelf champagne and express entry on the red carpet.

This venue is spectacular with pink granite stairs, Doric columns, and an opulent interior. The auditorium’s ceiling is more than 60 feet high, embellished with pilasters, carvings, and polished oak.

Held across three ballrooms, the party will offer many different DJs plus delicious food stations and a chance to hobnob with the hoi polloi.

10. Michelin Stars

Maybe you would like to splurge on the highly-rated Michelin starred restaurant Masseria for the last night out of 2019. You can try the chef’s tasting menu or a five-course prix fixe menu. It may cost a pretty penny,  but it sure is worth it.

Chef Nick Stefanelli captures the essence of his native Puglia with flavorful food and a romantic atmosphere. With mouth-watering food and a divine wine list,  this could be the place to pop the question!
